EOH company THINK iT, an information and communications technology (ICT) and data storage and security specialist, has boosted its cloud security capabilities with CCSK certification.
Unveiled by the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) in July last year, the CCSK (Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge) provides evidence that an individual has successfully completed an examination covering the key concepts of the CSA guidance as well as the European Network and Information Security Agency's (ENISA) whitepaper into 'Cloud Computing: Benefits, Risks and Recommendations for Information Security', regarded as a vital contribution to the cloud security body of knowledge.
CCSK was the industry's first user certification programme for secure cloud computing. It was designed to ensure that a broad range of professionals with a responsibility related to cloud computing have a demonstrated awareness of the security threats and best practices for securing the cloud.
Said THINK iT's Chief Technology Officer, Louis Botha: “We're exceptionally proud of our CCSK certification because it proves just how seriously we take our responsibility to assist our customers secure their clouds, as well as the data stored in those clouds.
“Affiliated as it is to ENISA, CCSK is the certification of choice for all companies who deal with globally active blue-chip customers. Companies who do make use of the cloud - and it has been estimated that 80% of companies do in some way or another - must appreciate that there are risks associated with the technology.
“However, working with providers who have, in the first instance, partnered with sound and experienced technology suppliers and, secondly, have done as much as possible to learn about the risks and how they can be managed by obtaining certification and continually up-skilling, will dramatically lower the risk.
“Seeking out a provider with CCSK should be the first step any CIO takes when considering the cloud,” he said.
The CSA is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within cloud computing, and to provide education on the uses of cloud computing to help secure all other forms of computing. The Cloud Security Alliance is led by a broad coalition of industry practitioners, corporations, associations and other key stakeholders.
ENISA is as a body of expertise, set up by the EU to carry out very specific technical, scientific tasks in the field of information security. It aims to achieve a high and effective level of network and information security within the European Union. Together with the EU institutions and the member states, ENISA seeks to develop a culture of network and information security for the benefit of citizens, consumers, business and public sector organisations in the European Union.
