iBurst 'not hacked`

Wireless Business Solutions (WBS) has denied reports that its iBurst server was hacked this week and says it was a case of a resellers` access privileges being compromised and abused.

This comment comes on the heels of bogus mails being sent to resellers promoting false special offers. The mails originated from the iBurst server.

The reseller whose access privileges were compromised has been identified and the matter is under investigation, says iBurst COO Thami Mtshali.

"The problem stems from the fact that we give our resellers access to the company`s data centre to enable them to give our customers instant activation services. Someone obtained the reseller in question`s access details and decided to abuse them," he says.

According to Mtshali, only resellers and not end-user customers got the mail because the reseller`s access was limited to sending mail to other resellers.

"It was not really a hack because the intruder got into the system using a valid user name and password," he notes.

The incident has resulted in unspecified resellers, including the reseller in question, having certain access privileges revoked.
