Streaming service Disney+ will be available on Xbox consoles in South Africa, beginning 29 September.

In a statement issued at the weekend, Disney+ says the streaming app will be incorporated onto Microsoft-owned gaming unit Xbox.

Current Xbox consoles that will support the Disney+ streaming service include Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, it states.

Console owners will be able to browse, stream and download over 1 000 films, more than 1 500 series and 200 exclusive originals from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic, according to the statement.

“Users will have access to up to four concurrent streams, unlimited downloads on up to 10 devices, and the ability to set up to seven different profiles, including the ability for parents to set a PIN to access age-appropriate content.”

Owned by global entertainment group The Walt Disney Company, Disney+ made its South African debut in May, making Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic content and general entertainment from Star available locally.

In SA, Disney+ has joined a growing streaming services market that includes MultiChoice-owned Showmax, Netflix, Prime Video from Amazon, Apple TV and BritBox, to name a few.
