Logicalis SA, a subsidiary of JSE-listed ICT solutions firm Datatec, has made three strategic senior appointments to strengthen its management team to expand its local reach.

The company has appointed Jakes Jakobsen as managing executive of sales and marketing, Caesar Tonkin as chief information security officer and Morn'e Laubscher as hybrid IT and cloud practice manager.

Headquartered in the UK, Logicalis designs, builds and supports ICT solutions for organisations throughout Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific and SA. The company has over 4 000 employees across 24 countries worldwide.

It says Tonkin will ensure its information assets for the SA and Africa region are adequately protected; building on the Logicalis cyber security capabilities already present in various regions.

"Tonkin is seasoned in cyber security, with 12 years of local and global information security experience. He previously led the global information security function at a multinational mining house and gained broad experience in cyber security across several industries as a trusted advisor to several CISOs and CIOs," adds Logicalis.

Laubscher will head up the company's hybrid IT and cloud practice division. With over 20 years' experience in the industry, he was previously involved in running product, services, consulting and solutions practices across multinational digital cloud ecosystems in various vertical markets.

The Cape Town-headquartered company has grown rapidly since starting local operations with only six employees in 2017. Last year, Logicalis acquired Clarotech, an IP telephony cloud and managed services business based in Cape Town.

The acquisition was part of an ongoing strategy to augment its existing solutions and services business, extending its managed services centre of excellence to other Logicalis customers around the globe.

The company employs over 120 people locally and says it continues to look for opportunities to expand further.

In his new position, Jakobsen will be responsible for leading the company's business strategy and sales and marketing operations.

"Jakobsen has more than 20 years' experience in the IT industry and has held senior sales and consulting roles at leading local IT firms, responsible for delivering key business targets for large corporate and mobile service provider customers," notes Logicalis.

Frikkie Grobler, CEO of Logicalis SA, says: "The three appointments add a great deal of expertise to the team as the business continues to expand its offering across Southern Africa and other African markets.

"We are extremely proud of the world-class managed services business we have built in a short space of time. We are servicing local and international markets and are positioned to extend our scope beyond services by offering bespoke digital business solutions to our customers."
