MTN SA presented its Yello Genie loyalty programme to hundreds of its top clients in Johannesburg on Friday.

The VIP service programme, scheduled to come into effect on 1 August, offers valued clients annual cellphone upgrades, loan phones when theirs are being repaired, pre-approved international dialling and roaming, and priority queuing for queries.

In addition, the programme promises to automatically give members access to new technology such as 3G and Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution (EDGE) as soon as it becomes available.

MTN noted that membership of the programme is by invitation only.

The mobile service provider took advantage of the Yello Genie launch to highlight its new 3G offering, which was rolled out in major centres three weeks ago.

Giving away new 3G handsets to hundreds of guests, MTN fuelled interest in its 3G service, which is available in Johannesburg, Midrand, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth. The offering is backed up by EDGE technology in provincial capitals, smaller towns and rural areas.

Santie Botha, executive director for marketing, MTN Group, said of the programme: "For the past 10 years, these customers have been loyal to MTN. MTN is now committing itself to them. We promise to be everywhere they go and to continue being the network provider of choice."
