Cisco Systems has appointed Niall Moynihan as business development manager for emerging markets.

Moynihan will consult with channel partners and end-users in emerging markets to ensure Cisco`s portfolio of services meets customers` needs, the company says.

"One of the exciting aspects of joining Cisco is the breadth of solutions which the company has to offer," Moynihan says.

"This is a strong basis for business development as there are considerable opportunities to grow sales within the existing customer base, while also expanding into new opportunities."

SME focus

Moynihan is particularly enthusiastic about opportunities to provide solutions for the small and medium enterprise (SME) environment in Africa.

"In an environment typically driven by entrepreneurs, there is a lot of potential for SMEs to benefit from improved management of resources, reduced costs of communication and improved security," he says. "There is, therefore, a massive market for companies that have the technologies, products and solutions that can give these SMEs a competitive advantage."

Moynihan notes that within the Cisco channel there are increasing instances of partners that are exclusively focused on the SME market.

"This is a larger market than the enterprise, particularly in Africa, and, as it adopts technology for competitive advantage and lower operating costs, this will increasingly become a core focus for Cisco," he says.

Moynihan was previously with Check Point, first as technical director and then as Europe, Middle East and Africa country manager for Ireland and SA.
