Enterasys Networks expands product portfolio for mid-market enterprises

Enterasys Networks has expanded its Matrix switching line and announced new high-speed wireless LAN cards aimed at the security conscious mid-market enterprise.

Johannesburg, 03 Oct 2003

Enterasys Networks Inc, a global provider of business-driven networks for enterprise customers, announced that it has expanded its solutions for mid-market enterprises with new models for the Matrix E1 switching line, new Matrix C1 switches, and new high-speed, 802.11a wireless local area network (WLAN) connectivity solutions for the company`s RoamAbout R2 platform and clients.

"Enterasys continues to aggressively develop and deliver new products that are truly differentiated in the marketplace," said Mark Aslett, president of Enterasys Networks. "The new products provide mid-sized organisations with high-performance networking capabilities that previously were only available to large enterprises. And, all of these new products support Enterasys` solutions-based approach to secure networks, where security is embedded in every network element. This provides customers with networks that are inherently secure, which is the most effective way to combat today`s proliferating and unpredictable security threats."

The new Matrix E1 (Layer 3) switches include a 24-port 10/100 Ethernet version designed for wiring closets, and a flexible 6-port Gigabit Ethernet (GBIC) version designed for distribution switching and server-farm aggregation. These new models are ideal for organisations that require advanced features for security, quality of service (QoS) and high availability. The Matrix E1 enables mid-market enterprises to deploy advanced services such as IP telephony, real-time multimedia, and data-intensive applications such as SAP and ERP.

The new Matrix E1s complement the existing Matrix E1 product family, including Workgroup Switches (WS), Gigabit Workgroup Switch (GWS), Gigabit Distribution Switch and Optical Access Switch (OAS).

The new Matrix C1 (Layer 2) switches include a 48-port 10/100 model and a 24-port 10/100/1000 model and are ideal for desktop and wiring closet applications. The Matrix C1s provide a powerful combination of wire-speed performance, security, management and QoS, at a cost-effective price point. Their next-generation architecture enhances network performance through a flexible choice of Ethernet interfaces and uplinks, advanced multiplayer classification, wire speed on all ports and IP routing.

The Matrix E1 and Matrix C1 are part of a full range of new switching products that Enterasys is announcing this year, following on the launch of the Matrix N-Series switches in April 2003 and the recently-announced Matrix V2, a cost-effective stackable switch for mid-market enterprises.

New wireless LAN cards drive flexibility, performance

Enterasys` new 802.11a WLAN Radio Card in the access point, coupled with the new RoamAbout multimode 802.11a/b/g PC card in the client (laptop), enables RoamAbout R2 customers to take full advantage of Enterasys` migration strategy to the high-performance 5.8GHz spectrum, increasing the performance and range of wireless networks.

Customers can now increase organisational productivity and mobility by utilising the modular RoamAbout R2 to run a 5GHz radio in one slot and a 2.4GHz radio in the second slot for seamless migration, or run two 54Mbps radios simultaneously, delivering optimum bandwidth and security at minimum cost for customers in education, healthcare, manufacturing, government and hospitality.

The Matrix E1 and Matrix C1 switches and 802.11a WLAN solutions are currently available. For more information, visit http://www.enterasys.com.
