Empowerdex has named Etion the most empowered JSE-listed company operating in the ICT sector. Etion was also ranked the most empowered company in the AltX and Management Control categories, while placing third overall under the new BEE codes.
Etion has made tremendous strides in meeting its empowerment aspirations, having obtained a level one B-BBEE certification for the second time this year.
"Empowerment and diversity for Etion is more than meeting B-BBEE regulatory requirements. It's a catalyst for innovation and an important competitive value proposition," said Group CEO, Teddy Daka, elaborating on the company's commitment to building a diverse workforce reflective of South African society at large.
"We therefore take a deliberate strategic approach to recruiting, developing, retaining and promoting diversified talent. We continue to prioritise the inclusion of black females in senior positions in the group.
"We continuously review our procurement practices, with a view to better improve our preferential procurement spend," added Daka, saying the company was also placing new emphasis on learnership and graduate programmes to address industry skills shortages while developing new skills to support digitisation alongside Etion's corporate social investments.
In addition to these excellent Empowerdex rankings, Etion's Daka has also been nominated as a finalist for the Institute of IT Professionals of South Africa (IITPSA) President's Awards in the IT Personality of the Year category, which recognises a person who has made an outstanding impact on South Africa's ICT industry over the past year.
