Internet service provider (ISP) Simpli Connect is collaborating with SMTAX, a digital accounting firm primarily for SMEs, to provide small businesses with discounted rates on Internet access packages, to boost digital transformation in the sector.

The partnership kicked off this week, with SMTAX offering the range of Simpli LTE solutions as part of its onboarding process for new company registrations.

The deal includes offering start-up services via WhatsApp, and SMEs are able to register their business online, with the entire process completed in less than a week.

SMTAX also offers a number of other value-added services, including VAT, PAYE and UIF registrations.

The company says the partnership with Simpli Connect is another way the organisation is positioning itself as a small business enabler.

“In today’s digital economy, it is imperative for any small business to ensure they are always accessible to their customers, no matter where they are. With our plug-and-play Simpli LTE solution, customers benefit from the widest network coverage in the country and Internet access that connects multiple users to business-grade Internet and affordable add-on services like VOIP [voice over Internet Protocol],” says Farhad Suleman, Simpli Connect CEO.

“This partnership with SMTAX means we can continue to enable small businesses to take advantage of the 4IR [fourth industrial revolution] and assist them as a trusted technology partner on their digital transformation journey.”

Buchule Sibaca, CEO of SMTAX, comments: “The partnership with Simpli Connect will launch timeously at the beginning of Global Entrepreneurship Week and it further cements our commitment and support to entrepreneurs as SMTAX.

“Comprehensive digital accounting and tax services allow SMEs to contribute positively to the economy of South Africa, and with Simpli Connect’s digital enablement, SMEs will now have access to new markets and thereby achieve scale.”

The partnership comes on the back of growing initiatives aimed at assisting SMEs to accelerate digital transformation, in response to operational challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic has had far-reaching effects, even more so in SA where SMEs are a pillar of the economy.

Last month, Standard Bank, Mastercard and Google announced an alliance to help SMEs accept digital payments and attract more customers.

Consultancy firm McKinsey & Company has also been urging small businesses to adopt digital and new technologies to enhance their reach and efficiency at lower costs.
