Moving data efficiently is a critical component for success in any business today. As leased lines give way to the benefits of the internet, so too comes the need for additional levels of security as trusted information comes in closer proximity to the public internet.

Malicious attacks put businesses at risk, every minute of every day. A breach of any kind undermines customer confidence and brand loyalty. This combined with more stringent regulatory compliance puts security as a top business priority.

During a recent Webinar, hosted by Trustlink in conjunction with IBM, the benefits of IBM Sterling Secure Proxy, the solution that allows an organisation to safely exchange data with partners, suppliers, and customers across the internet, were discussed.

IBM Sterling Secure Proxy is a DMZ-based application software proxy enabling secure and high-speed data movement over the internet. It provides increased perimeter security to protect the organisation’s trusted zone, as well as authentication services to prevent unauthorised access to its business-critical internal systems. It integrates with the organisation’s existing security infrastructure to meet security and audit requirements while also supporting compliance regulations and incorporating industry standards and best practices.

The importance of efficient security as well as the lurking danger with the absence thereof, was highlighted by Guest Speaker Vijay Chougule, Senior Offering Manager for IBM’s Managed File Transfer offerings. “The impact of any security data breach that happens across industries, can be seen in a report from 2019, which shows that it takes about 279 days to a year to really identify and put mitigations in place for any breach that you discover. Furthermore the global average cost per data breach, per incident has been estimated as 3.92 million US dollars, with an average of 25 000 plus records that gets compromised in any given data breach,” Chougule stated the devastating findings of this report, conducted by IBM’s security team. “When a security breach is detected, the loss in business is the biggest contributor to overall cost. That incident is not just a sole incident and then you quickly recover, it actually has a long-term impact. It impacts the brand reputation that can stay for years and take a long period of time to recover from.” Chougule elaborated that even though perimeters are still the first line of defence, IBM Sterling Secure Proxy will ensure that an organisation is protected even further.

IBM Sterling Secure Proxy can provide multiple layers of protection, a defence in-depth approach to securing an organisation’s network. This solution incorporates firewall navigation best practices, SSL Session breaks and policy enforcement to keep network and data transactions secure. Multi-factor authentication provides strong validation of trading partner identity. Protocol inspection and command filtering stop malicious attacks before they even get close to your trusted zone and flexible deployment options meet a wide range of security requirements.

IBM Sterling Secure Proxy is a multi-protocol enterprise solution that protects an organisation from internet attacks, supports the growing trading partner community effortlessly. It provides operational continuity and improved performance with clustering for high availability and load balancing. In the end it reduces an organisation’s total cost of ownership.

Furthermore it provides best-of-breed edge security solution for IBM’s entire B2B/MFT portfolio and the 6.0 Series provides key capabilities that will impact security and reliability to your organisation’s file exchanges.
