Software development company BBD Group has acquired a 30% equity stake in IT services company, Xpertek Contact, for an undisclosed sum.

Xpertek Contact was founded in 2011, providing business intelligence consulting services on customer experience platforms. Over the years Xpertek Contact's offerings have expanded and now include custom software development, robotic process automation-as-a-service, business intelligence solutions and location-based marketing solutions.

The partnership will enable BBD to grow their own solution effectiveness by leveraging the abilities and skills of Xpertek Contact, notes Gus Pringle, financial director at BBD.

The acquisition is also part of BBD Group's strategy to strengthen its position in South Africa's ICT sector, he adds.

BBD is now able to add robotic process automation (RPA) to its technology solutions, he says.

Adoption of RPA is considered to be one of the biggest trends that is shaping various sectors tremendously during 2018 to 2023 period, says Market Future research. The RPA industry is gaining increased levels of growth due to the high levels of efficiency that can be achieved from these systems, it adds.

RPA allows for a non-invasive and immediate improvement of existing IT infrastructure's ability to execute, and when combined with enterprise solutions that BBD delivers to its clients, all departments within an organisation will see immediate benefits, says Pringle.

By automating tasks in client environments, costs and human error can be reduced and a better operational result can be achieved by freeing up high-value resources to do more complex tasks, he adds.

"RPA allows for a non-invasive and immediate improvement of existing IT infrastructure's ability to execute, and when combined with enterprise solutions that BBD delivers to its clients, all departments within an organisation will see immediate benefits."

Says Chris Cochrane, Xpertek Contact MD: "We have grown rapidly over the past three years and partnering with BBD will allow us to bring our robotics and BI expertise to a larger customer base, by leveraging the knowledge within BBD to quickly scale our business to meet the demands of both BBD and our customer bases."

Concludes Pringle: "We look forward to a beneficial partnership with the Xpertek Contact management team and its people, as we expand BBD's ability to bring top people together to craft world-class technology solutions for our clients."

In 2017, BBD Group acquired a 26% stake in Fusion Software, a South African company providing integrated software solutions and business management tools. The deal enabled the company to add enterprise resource capabilities to its offerings.
