ATIO adds Ixia ThreatARMOR, the new frontline of cyber defence, to security portfolio

Turn-key security device reduces network attack surface and alert fatigue.

Johannesburg, 10 Mar 2016

ATIO, a specialist provider of ICT solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, is proud to announce the availability of ThreatARMOR, another innovation from Ixia, a leading provider of network test, visibility and security solutions. ThreatARMOR is a natural complement to an existing security infrastructure; decreasing the volume of security alerts generated, freeing resources to focus on critical issues.

A network attack surface is the sum of every access avenue an individual can use to gain access to an enterprise network. Enterprise security tools inspect all traffic, including that which should not be on the network in the first place, such as traffic from known malicious IPs, hijacked IPs, and unassigned or unused IP space/addresses. ThreatARMOR blocks this known bad traffic, reducing the burden on the existing security infrastructure. Ixia's ThreatARMOR is an easy, fast and highly cost-effective way to reduce a network attack surface.

Ixia's ThreatARMOR enables enterprise customers to:

* Block traffic from known bad IP addresses at line-rate speeds onsite without sending traffic outside the private network for inspection;
* Add malicious IP addresses for blocking, either manually or automatically from SIEM tools;
* Identify and stop infected internal devices from communicating to known botnet C&C servers;
* Block traffic by geography from entire countries that likely have no valid reason to access the network;
* Block unused IP space / unassigned IP addresses and hijacked domains from the network; and
* Free up thousands of hours of time spent unnecessarily analysing false positives or traffic from known malicious IP addresses.

Tim Courtenay, MD of ATIO telecoms, says "It's simple really, enterprises must continually enhance their cyber protection but must also drive down operating costs, a seemingly intractable problem. Ixia's ThreatARMOR achieves this - it can be implemented within minutes, and it can potentially achieve 10x ROI within a year. A single ThreatARMOR appliance can be deployed on both the inside and outside of your perimeter, reducing inbound firewall load from known bad sites and countries you don't do business with, while simultaneously identifying infected internal systems and blocking communication with Botnet controllers."

ThreatARMOR doesn't use signatures and there are no false positives. Any blocked sites are supported with clear on-screen proof of malicious activity such as malware distribution or phishing, including date of most recent confirmation and even screen shots. The site list is kept constantly up to date by Ixia's Application and Threat Intelligence (ATI) Research Center that individually validates every site and provides a cloud-based update every five minutes. Since network availability is critical to your business, ThreatARMOR is built for resilient and failsafe operation. Features such as dual-redundant power supplies and Ethernet interfaces with built-in bypass modes ensure network availability on both the 1GbE copper and 10GbE fibre interfaces.

Ixia's ThreatARMOR security appliance:

* Reduces attack surface by eliminating traffic from unwanted geographies and known bad sites;
* Blocks outbound Botnet communication from infected internal systems; and
* Is cost-effective and improves the lifespan and effectiveness of a security architecture.
