Bytes Document Solutions continues progress in BBBEE stakes

Johannesburg, 30 Jun 2011

Bytes Document Solutions, the distributor of Xerox to 27 African countries, has confirmed its status as South Africa's most transformed ICT company, securing 92.34 out of a target 100 points.

Independently, its subsidiary LaserCom also maintained and improved its own Level 2 status.

“As we are the largest operational entity in Bytes Technology Group, these results solidify Bytes' overall Level 2 status, which will stand us in very good stead as we compete for business in what is a very tough market,” says Hennie du Plessis, CEO of Bytes Document Solutions, a division of Bytes Technology Group and wholly owned by JSE-listed Altron.

Along with its Level 2 status as a trading partner, Bytes Document Solutions offers significant value-add credits for its customers. The score achieved is the highest of any of the Bytes group companies, which in itself is a huge achievement, adds Du Plessis.

“It is incumbent on me to thank HR director Ria Fleetwood and her team for working very hard over the last year to maintain and improve on our BBBEE status.

This result means clients can claim back R156.25 for every R100 spent with the company, which is the market leader in office automation and document management.

“There are two clear and separate imperatives when it comes to BBBEE,” adds Du Plessis. “Naturally, the first is that we should do what is right by the country in terms of historical restitution. The second is that we can enable our partners and customers to be more competitive in their business.”

As rated by Empowerdex, Bytes Document Solutions' highlights included scores of:

* 22.83 out of 20 for ownership.
* 12.53 out of 15 for skills development.
* 19.8 out of 20 for preferential procurement.
* A full house of 15 for enterprise development.
* A similar 100% score for socio-economic development.

“We will continue to propel our company forward to make it fully representative of South Africa's demographics,” concludes Du Plessis, “and to ensure that we make a lasting, meaningful contribution to our industry and the economy.”
