Cloud is the driver behind a data-driven world and enables organisations to create new business value by improving the customer and employee experience. In fact, today, the majority or organisations have invested in digital platforms and cloud technologies as means to realise significant savings and efficiencies as well as a competitive edge.
And these days, the rich set of capabilities and tools once only in the hands of large enterprises are being democratised by the hyperscale providers and put in the hands of smaller businesses and public sector organisations too.
With this in mind, ITWeb, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), is conducting a Cloud Survey that delves into the state of cloud adoption within South African organisations across the public and private sectors. The survey also examines the challenges and opportunities that go hand-in-hand with cloud adoption, as well as the factors that determine the failure or success of a cloud implementation.
Zubin Chagpar: head of MEA, Public Sector Sales at AWS, says the company wants to understand perceptions of cloud adoption and the potential it bodes to stimulate the local economy, and to find out how its South African customers and other organisations are innovating with cloud-based technologies to create jobs and develop solutions to address SA’s unique cultural, political, health and geographic challenges.
According to Chagpar, AWS cloud service enables businesses of all sizes in SA to think big and accelerate economic growth. The very nature of AWS’s business, he says, is enabling organisations to access scalable, dependable, and highly secure computing power, which means AWS is playing an important role in the response to COVID-19, both at global, and local level, here in SA.
Amazon has been doing a lot of listening, adds Chagpar. “We’ve been listening and learning from organisations of all sizes – from the WHO to small start-ups here in Africa – that have rapidly adapted to the challenging circumstances and refocused, quite literally, overnight. We have then taken what we have heard and have been looking at ways we can help during this crisis.
“It’s a responsibility to our customers, and the wider community, which we take very seriously. We are always looking for the best way to help them, right now and in the long-term,” he adds.
