Face detection dominates

Roughly 20 000 attendees are expected to converge on the Las Vegas Convention Centre for the 84th annual PMA 08 International Convention and Trade Show, from 31 January to 2 February, says TWICE.

Face detection will loom large among the new camera introductions, as manufacturers roll out more advanced iterations of the technology.

Several new models from Sony, for instance, can use face detection to distinguish between children and adults, or delay the moment of image capture until the child in the frame is smiling.

Zink paper on its way

Zink utilises advanced heat-reactive crystals impregnated into the paper that enables the production of durable, full-colour, high-resolution prints from printers tiny enough to fit in your pocket, reports coolest-gadgets.com.

The Zink paper itself comes impregnated with dye crystals that are colourless unless they are treated with heat. As for the Zink printer itself, it is a thermal transfer engine that will stimulate the crystals into corresponding colours whenever users want a full colour print.

Each Zink paper comes with a quartet of layers, where it consists of the base and three colour layers (primary colours of cyan, magenta and yellow).

iPhone prints ordered online

Ecce Terram announced it will launch an iPhone client that allows iPhone users to order prints of their pictures online, directly from their iPhone, says IntoMobile.

It seems the iPhone's ability to store digital picture album and multi-touch image manipulation makes the iPhone "the first attractive and user-friendly mobile phone photo print application that will be loved by its users".

Users will be able to order picture-books and postcards printed from the image files on their iPhone - either taken with the iPhone's camera or transferred from their computer. A final version of the Ecce Terram iPhone picture-printing service should be available shortly, after Apple releases the official iPhone SDK.
