HP has appointed David Rozzio as the new managing director of its South African business.

The company says in this role, Rozzio will be responsible for providing country leadership and driving profitable growth across the printing and personal systems businesses.

Rozzio replaces Thibault Dousson, whose LinkedIn profile indicates he joined rival Lenovo last month. Dousson is now general manager at the PC maker.

Following the split of HP into two separate entities last year, Dousson was appointed head of HP Inc, while former Oracle executive, Pieter Bensch, headed HP Enterprise.

Although HP split into two companies - HP Enterprise and HP Inc - the local firm said at the time it was "business as usual" in SA.

A South African spokesperson then said HP Enterprise and HP Inc share offices in SA. "We did not have any changes from the split besides the legal changes."

HP Inc says Rozzio brings a wealth of industry experience he accumulated during his 15 years at HP across different business units and segments. Most recently, he was director, channel and SME, for HP's printing and personal systems business in the Middle East, Mediterranean and Africa (MEMA).

"I am honoured and excited to take up this leading role at HP. I look forward to working with our customers and partners to help reinvent computing and printing for organisations of all sizes," says Rozzio.

Rozzio has held key roles since joining HP in 2001, including development manager and area category manager for business PCs and workstations in France. This was followed by channel sales support manager in MEMA and channel director for the PC business in the Middle East.

He holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Montpellier, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Hautes Etudes Commerciales in France.
