Hyland Software's OnBase ECM product suite has appeared on Gartner's Magic Quadrant (MQ) for Enterprise Content Management (ECM) since 2004, and maintained its position as 'Leader' for four consecutive years.
"Enterprise content management software is essential to today's content-driven business environment, integrating with existing business applications to reduce and eliminate redundant tasks. The versatility of the OnBase suite of modules and applications has made it very popular among our customers, so we are not surprised that Hyland Software has been on the ECM MQ for 10 years now. Hyland Software was the lone challenger from 2004 to 2009, and has been a Leader since 2010," explains Paul Wright, MD of Datafinity.

According to Gartner's 2013 ECM MQ report, ECM delivers solid business benefits to IT leaders as the market shows continued growth. It states the 23 vendors named, including Hyland Software, are addressing increased demands for better mobile and cloud capabilities, as well as more rigorous expectations for vertically-specific needs.
The Gartner report recognises OnBase's deep integration with Outlook - with nearly 80% of OnBase functionality being surfaced through Outlook. It further highlights OnBase's ease of integration with its Application Enabler technology, used to integrate the software with a wide variety of ERP and other line of business systems, without any custom coding.
Additionally, Hyland was a Visionary in Gartner's 2003 MQ for Integrated Document Management, which was the predecessor of Gartner's ECM MQ. It was also a Challenger in Gartner's Integrated Document Archive and Retrieval Systems (IDARS) MQ from 2003 to 2005, after which the IDARS MQ was discontinued.
According to Gartner, Hyland's "sweet spot" has always been mid-market organisations, where it has a loyal and satisfied customer base. OnBase can start small (eg, in a specific department) and scale up to support larger enterprise needs, the report says. In addition, says Gartner, Hyland provides packaged API-level integration to healthcare-specific solutions.
"A key reason for Hyland's continued growth and marketing penetration has been its vertical domain expertise and deep solution focus, especially in healthcare, higher education and government. These solutions include medical records, transcript capture, and board and committee agenda management, as well as accounts payable," says the report.
