LAWtrust deepens security offering with Thales partnership ahead of information-protection act

Increasingly sophisticated threats to data security, coupled with the introduction of new legislation, is forcing companies to protect personal information and driving demand for cryptographic expertise.

Johannesburg, 02 Mar 2017

LAWtrust, Africa's leading cyber security and encryption specialist, has seen a surge in demand from businesses looking for solutions.

In response, LAWtrust has been building its solutions offering to its clients and recently signed a significant agreement with leading global security specialist Thales e-Security.

"We see continued growth in demand for cyber security... That demand is coming from both existing and new clients, many of which are based offshore," says Christi Maherry, LAWtrust co-founder and chief executive officer.

"Thales is recognised as the world leader in hardware and software encryption solutions and has a long-established track record in the payments security space as well as government security spaces," says Maherry.

Committing LAWtrust's expert resources to this "best-of-breed solutions set", the company will be able to provide "state-of-the-art solutions" for security, payment-industry and Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act compliance "in terms of encrypting personal and sensitive information, whether it resides in a data centre or in the cloud".

As businesses better appreciate the requirements of the POPI Act - as well as the consequences of noncompliance - demand is set to increase as the regulations come into force later this year.

Not only does the new legislation demand that the personal information handled by legal entities is protected, but also that businesses and other institutions are able to prove they have the appropriate protection in place.

"It's more important than ever that our clients are able to manage their data securely while establishing digital trust in the core of their businesses," Maherry says. "We have the expert cryptographic engineers and developers that are able to customise solutions to meet the security and performance needs of any organisation."

The agreement with Thales comes shortly after LAWtrust signed an exclusive contract with Nasdaq-listed email-data protection company Zix Corporation (ZixCorp).

As in the case of the Thales partnership, the ZixCorp deal was done to meet the market demand for state-of-the-art security and protection.
