Comstor, a division of WestconGroup Southern Africa, has appointed Faizel Baulackey as data centre manager.

Baulackey will be responsible for the growth of the data centre solutions and vendor offerings by aligning the company's Southern Africa data centre strategy with the rest of WestconGroup globally.

Also, he will further develop a regional strategy and go-to-market plan for Comstor's data centre business with the purpose of acquiring and developing new channels in the reseller base and increasing sales.

Baulackey's immediate goal is to improve the breadth of the company data centre solutions offering and vendor data centre products.

"In the long term I aim for regular evaluation of the data centre business pertaining to probability, achievement of targets and, if necessary, the implementation of corrective actions to ensure targets are met. I will also focus on vendor relationship interaction."

He also plans to formulate a data centre channel acquisition plan for both SA and Africa, as well as vendor specific plans with clear deliverables that are aligned with the company strategy.

Baulackey joins the company from his previous position as an advanced customer support services sales representative for Oracle.

In previous projects Baulackey formed part of a team that identified issues in a business's infrastructure environment and proposed solutions to these problems, says Comstor.

He was involved in helping the business transform its infrastructure into a data centre of the future and worked with his team to consolidate and virtualise every aspect of the business's IT infrastructure, it adds.

According to Baulackey, the need to right-size the data centre is one of the most pressing challenges facing businesses today but careful planning can help establish a powerful union between a data centre and the cloud.

"I believe that there are three approaches to the cloud. Enterprise clients will most likely adapt multiple models and not settle on only one model. Companies can evolve from one type of model to another or they can change the mix," he says.

"For example they can start with a private cloud and then decide to go to a public cloud. There are multiple approaches to cloud for business, but the inevitability of modernising data centres is a reality for local business. I look forward to assisting companies on this journey and being able to - through Comstor - provide them with the services and solutions they may need to support them along the way."

Baulackey believes cloud transformation will turn siloed enterprise architecture to a service-oriented portfolio of cloud architecture-enabled services.

Businesses that undergo a cloud transformation will become more service-orientated and scalable and be able to deliver those services over the Internet and based on pay-per-use, he adds.

"I am pleased to welcome Faizel to the team and cannot wait to see how he uses his capabilities and experience to improve our business and the businesses of our customers," says Louise Taute, Comstor director at WestconGroup Southern Africa.

"Data centre solutions are changing on a daily basis and I look forward to seeing him use his expertise to package solutions that are not only perfect for our customers, but innovative and transformative," she adds.

Baulackey holds a financial management diploma from Damelin and is completing his Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators diploma qualification.
