The Jasco Group has appointed Paul Fick as MD of Jasco's international business.

According to the company, Fick will be directly responsible for establishing Jasco in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region and will also oversee North Africa and East Africa - covering Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and Rwanda.

Jasco says it has been in east Africa for 18 months with an office in Kenya and a growing team that is contributing to the company's offshore successes. A new office in Dubai was opened recently, which is in line with the group's strategic commitment to provide customers with the best possible service in-region, it adds.

The office will initially focus on business development and sales with a view to providing in-region technical and support personnel, says Jasco. Fick's appointment is evidence of Jasco's intention to diversify offshore and to include forex earnings in the sales mix, it continues.

"We believe that we can add value to these customers with Jasco's overall solution portfolio and services offering," says Fick. The MENA region could become a significant contributor to Jasco's revenues and profits."

He says the company plans to start by establishing a Centre of Excellence to do provisioning of communications and renewable energy solutions and services.

"As we become more familiar with the environment and build relationships with customers, we will also include other Jasco solution portfolio items as part of our offering into these markets and customers."

Jasco's Middle East team consists of individuals with deep experience in renewable energy and communications solutions, says Fick. "We have also partnered with well-established industry stalwarts who will assist in opening doors and in closing deals. Our approach is to engage with customers at a business development level, and as we nurture specific opportunities, we will be adding people to conduct business analysis, design, and eventually project management and service delivery."

Jasco's sourcing plans include using expertise from the SA office and from the east Africa office, but it will be recruiting in the Middle East to ensure it has the right mix of people on hand, says Fick.

According to his LinkedIn page, Fick has worked for the company as chief technology officer at Jasco Electronics and also served as the divisional MD of Jasco Enterprise. He was also the CEO and MD of Spescom Datafusion. In addition Fick was the MD at Ampkon.

He holds a masters degree in Business Leadership (MBL) from Unisa and a BSc mechanical engineering honours degree from the University of Pretoria.
