From local garage to global offices - Sage Alchemex is on the move

Having being acquired by Sage South Africa two years ago, Durban-based business intelligence company, Sage Alchemex, announced its move into the Sage Technology Park in Mount Edgecombe this week. The move presents the opportunity to forge stronger relationships with Sage counterparts and for the training division in particular, potential to tap into the market provided by the surrounding office parks.

Sage Alchemex was founded in August 2001 by Darryl Smith, Charles Teversham and Gary Boddington. As with many start-ups, they set up office in Boddington's garage in Durban and began developing Sage Intelligence software, a flexible Excel-based reporting tool that gives SMEs better business insight by helping them to easily control, automate, and analyse their data to make informed decisions quicker.

The company's first software integration was with Sage Pastel in 2005, where the reporting software was integrated into the Pastel Accounting product and called the Pastel Business Intelligence Centre (BIC). To date, the software integrates with 11 Sage ERP and accounting products in Africa, the United States of America, Asia, Australasia and Canada. Worldwide, there are over 30 000 people who use Sage Intelligence software, which enjoys renewal rates of around 90%. "Users of our software experience up to a 25% efficiency improvement, allowing them to save both time and money. That's especially cool because we exist to improve the lives of our customers and employees," says Charles Teversham, Managing Director.

Sage Alchemex is also the creator of Excel on Steroids, a specialised Microsoft Excel training programme that provides in-depth coverage of key Excel functionality that is relevant to business reporting. Launched in 2004 to equip users with advanced Excel skills to take full advantage of the reporting software, close to 15 000 financial directors, financial managers, bookkeepers, accountants, and sales managers have to date completed the Excel on Steroids workshops, both in the classroom and online.

Teversham says: "We strive to provide delegates with an 'x-factor' training experience. Relocating will provide Durban delegates with the pleasure of learning in a refreshing, contemporary setting, enhancing the delivery of our unique Excel on Steroids training programme, and it will open up greater opportunities for the training division - being in close proximity to the La Lucia Ridge, Millennium Bridge and Umhlanga Ridge Business Parks. So many business professionals would benefit from attending the Excel on Steroids training workshops, which will equip them with specialised Microsoft Excel skills for improved business reporting."

The new address for Sage Alchemex from 2 December 2013 is:

Sage Technology Park
23A Flanders Drive
Mount Edgecombe
Durban

Sage Alchemex also has a training centre in the Sage Technology Park, in Woodmead, Johannesburg, and a remote office in Irvine, California, USA.

With a total staff complement of over 50 employees, this local company that was started by three people, in a garage, just over a decade ago, is now enjoying global success!
