US Bancorp updates mobile app

US Bancorp, in Minneapolis, released a new mobile banking application as part of a series of upgrades planned for its mobile banking over the next several months. The updates will be made to the bank's apps for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry devices, American Banker reports.

The new app will include old features, such as mobile cheque deposit. Customers will be able to deposit cheques on their iPhones and Androids using the phone's camera, and they will be able to deposit cheques via the iPad in January.

Proformative states that customers can now acquire the app through traditional marketplaces, by scanning a promotional QR code or requesting a link be sent to their smartphones as they navigate the bank's Web site on their PCs.

According to the latest research from comScore, mobile banking app usage in the US has already grown 46% from the fourth quarter of 2010.

More than 32 million Americans have already accessed mobile banking services, according to the report, and that market segment is primed for growth as the technology matures.
