Glotec secures R1m Botswana ERP banking deal

Johannesburg, 26 Sep 2001

JSE Securities Exchange-listed Global Technology, SA`s largest supplier of solutions to the banking market, has secured a deal with Botswana Building Society (BBS) for a banking ERP solution worth R1 million. This follows the acquisition of Associated Computer Solutions (ACS) five months ago.

BBS has bought the Embrace ERP (enterprise resource planning) system to extend the functionality of its GLOBUS banking system. BBS took over from the United Building Society in Botswana 25 years ago when the Pula was introduced as the country`s currency. It was the first GLOBUS user in Southern Africa and is Global Technology`s longest standing client. Its GLOBUS system, installed five years ago, manages over 120 000 client records.

Embrace is a fully integrated ERP software package for the manufacturing, distribution and accounting arenas, encompassing fully integrated banking modules. It is targeted at large multinational companies that need control over management of financials across many subsidiaries, branches, warehouses and manufacturing plants.

Included in the deal is the GLOBUS Open Financial Server module, which is a gateway between GLOBUS and external applications, and Integrator, which enables GLOBUS to interface and map information to other applications. Integrator was developed locally by Global Technology and is recognised and sold by TEMENOS internationally.

"The Embrace implementation allows BBS to run a centralised, holistic system for its financial division," says Harold Kachaje, finance manager at BBS. "It adds the functionality of general ledger, debtors, creditors, cashbook, purchasing, fixed assets and inventory management to the GLOBUS banking system," he says.

"By combining its strengths with Global Technology, BBS can now approach the ERP needs of its customers from a banking perspective, building solutions by adding business support functions to a core banking system," says Mark Botha, account manager at Global Technology. "In addition, it offers an ERP system where banking is at the core of the system and not on the periphery.

"Embrace will enable BBS to produce its financial statements from a single system far more accurately and timeously than it could in the past," concludes Botha.

Embrace enables BBS to produce budgets in order to perform effective comparisons to actuals during the year. In addition, Global Technology is automating the extraction of data from GLOBUS and incorporating it into the debtor`s ledger in Embrace, providing a seamless interface between the two systems.

Global Technology acquired ACS with the intention of creating a world-class banking ERP solution that integrates with the GLOBUS banking system; this sale marks the first of many anticipated follow-on GLOBUS ERP sites worldwide.
