Syrex, a leading provider of virtualised and hybrid network infrastructures and solutions, hosted its 11th annual golf day at Bryanston Country Club on 12 October 2018. The event was completely booked with fourballs, seeing the organisation raise R15 000 for JAM South Africa, a humanitarian relief and development organisation.

"Combating hunger and malnutrition amongst children remain the most important challenges we face as a country. Research shows that malnutrition amongst children stunt their growth and negatively impact their potential later in life. And while this undernutrition is a significant problem, the country is also seeing childhood obesity reaching dangerous proportions, resulting in the onset of numerous non-communicable diseases such as diabetes," says Ralph Berndt, Director of Sales at Syrex.

He says the work that JAM South Africa does through its various programmes is essential to help those most vulnerable in our society.

"From nutritional school feeding and agricultural development to water sanitation and health and care for vulnerable children, JAM is a charity we are incredibly proud to be able to support. Through fund-raising events such as our recent golf day, we want to show our commitment as an organisation to help make a difference in the lives of our future generation of leaders."

Syrex used the Gold Day to launch its Cyber Resilience campaign, an all-encompassing approach that includes cyber-security, disaster recovery, and business continuity management.

"Security is no longer about just having a firewall or anti-virus software installed. It is about being cognisant of other business processes and being organic to adapt continually to meet increasingly sophisticated threat levels."

There was live scoring throughout the day enabling competitors to keep abreast of how they were faring. Each golf cart had a hashtag number plate to reflect key messages around the Cyber Resilience campaign.

The company also participated in the annual Santa Shoebox Project that collects and distributes gifts for underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia.

"With the festive season around the corner, it is important to remember those less fortunate that do not have access to items many of us take for granted. From a toothbrush and toothpaste, to educational supplies, clothing, and a toy, this initiative plays an important role in those children's lives. We are humbled by the commitment of our staff who selflessly gave up their time to work on this project," he says.

Being involved with these two charities reflects the passion Syrex has for getting involved in the communities in which it operates.

"The Golf Day was a resounding success. We would like to thank our employees and stakeholders who participated at the Golf Day to contributing to these initiatives. Together, we are working on making the country a better place."
