"Made in digital Germany" partnership at Aachen University: e-mobility by e.GO and digitalisation by Software AG

Johannesburg, 18 Jul 2018

The European 4.0 Transformation Center (E4TC), a collaboration platform by the prestigious RWTH Aachen Campus of the Aachen University, and Software AG, a market leading provider of digitalisation and IIOT (industrial Internet of things), have announced a partnership for digital transformation of e.GO Mobile's production.

e.GO Mobile is a visionary start-up from the RWTH Aachen Campus that produces economical and customer-centric electric cars. Its new facility in Aachen Rothe Erde starts production today.

European 4.0 Transformation Center: realising digital transformation

E4TC helps manufacturers achieve rapid digital transformation. Based at the RWTH Aachen Campus, the centre is unique in combining the specific tasks necessary for realising digital transformation with the campus's interdisciplinary research activities. Findings are used and tested at e.GO Mobile, a real production scenario.

Thanks to this one-of-a-kind scenario, a wide range of digitised processes for production, development, sales and marketing can be tested and optimised using this functional use case. The results are already impressive. As of immediately, the first e-cars are coming off the production line and are cost-effective and affordable. The new assembly plant opens today in Aachen Rothe Erde (Germany).

Software AG: partner for digitalisation

Software AG will provide its Digital Business Platform, which can integrate IT with operational technology (OT). The company specialises in IOT with leading solutions to integrate, connect and manage IOT components, as well as to analyse data and predict future events based on artificial intelligence.

These solutions will now be employed by e.GO, producing tangible results at its digital factory of the future and facilitating "made in digital Germany" e-mobility. Software AG will collaborate closely with e.GO Digital, a subsidiary of e.GO Mobile that has been developing data-based business models and business apps in co-operation with leading hi-tech companies since 2017. This creates value through simplification of business processes and customer apps in the "new mobility" ecosystem.

CEO of European 4.0 Transformation Center, Dr Thomas Gartzen, commented: "We are extremely pleased to welcome Software AG to our network. Digitalisation plays a special role in achieving affordable e-mobility. We are happy to have access to the expertise of a digitalisation specialist like Software AG. In exchange, we will provide our new member with a unique forum for long-term collaboration based on our interdisciplinary network, including all departments and members of the RWTH Aachen Campus. Rolling out real digital transformation projects with e.GO Mobile, located here on campus, offers a special opportunity in that it is a living demo. I am certain that together, we will make the future of e-mobility successful!"

Dr Wolfram Jost, Software AG's CTO, added: "This partnership isn't just an excellent opportunity to put our IIOT expertise to the test. It also gives us the chance to collaborate with visionaries, innovators and experts in both a scientific and business context. Additionally, we will be able to show our customers and prospects concrete examples of what digitalisation can do using the exciting field of e-mobility on campus. We look forward to our successful work together!"

The first results of the partnership will be presented on 10-11 October 2018 at the third Practice Forum: "Realising digital transformation: Explore the new Industry 4.0 series production plant and experience the Internet of production for development, production and customer processes."
