Telkom Business has added a new voice product for the SME market to its business portfolio.

The company this morning announced the introduction of Business Circle, which enables customers to create closed user groups comprising Telkom fixed-line and mobile services, and allows for "unlimited free calling" within the group.

Jan Pieterse, executive for product management at Telkom Business, says the product is aimed at small businesses that rely heavily on communication between employees.

Telkom says the latest product - available from 9 September - aligns with the company's strategic direction towards convergence and is focused on SMEs in light of the "widely recognised trend across all emerging markets, including SA" of the segment playing a significant role in economic growth and job creation.

Pieterse says the company believes it has a vital role to play in aiding the development of the SME sector. "The products we develop will go a long way in enhancing efforts aimed at bringing the second economy into the first.

"Businesses looking to tap into innovative solutions that enable productivity, while enhancing convenience and cost-effectiveness, must consider the convergence route."

He says Business Circle is a fixed and mobile solution that can be used to "lower costs and significantly increase efficiency and productivity in any organisation".
