Software AG launches Data Masking for Adabas, ensuring data anonymity, security throughout life cycle

* Secures sensitive production data stored in Adabas in non-production environments.
* Automatically masks Adabas data to secure data privacy.
* Transformed and untraceable data helps organisations comply with data protection legislation such as HIPAA, PCI DSS, GLBA and the EU Data Protection Directive.

Darmstadt, Germany, 08 May 2012

Software AG today announced the launch of Data Masking for Adabas, a solution created to enable Adabas customers to design and test applications using actual production data that has been altered to ensure the privacy and security of the data itself.

Developers building applications designed to interact with data in Adabas need real data against which to test and refine their applications in test or QA environments. Yet real-world data contains a wealth of highly sensitive information - everything from customer names to credit card numbers to medical records.

An organisation could extract a snapshot of corporate data from Adabas and preserve its anonymity manually, ensuring that sensitive information has been stripped out and dummy values or text has been inserted. However, that process is time- and resource-intensive - and subject to human error and oversight.

Data Masking for Adabas automates this transformation process and ensures that potentially sensitive data remains anonymous and secure throughout various Adabas database environments. At the same time, Data Masking for Adabas retains the integrity of the original environment, ensuring that developers can work with data that is sufficiently 'production-like' to stand in for actual production data.

“Data Masking for Adabas ensures that organisations can quickly and easily provide developers with the real-world data they need, while simultaneously ensuring that data privacy and security remain uncompromised,” said Dr Wolfram Jost, CTO of Software AG. “Organisations can comply with data protection regulations and market expectations, even as they can reduce the cost and time of application development.”

Organisations that must comply with data protection legislation such as HIPAA, PCI DSS, GLBA and the EU Data Protection Directive can benefit from Data Masking for Adabas. It also allows organisations to avoid public outrage by helping prevent any chance that sensitive data will inadvertently find its way into the public realm due to a development or testing error.
