Daily Homes is an online property-marketing portal that targets properties for rental below R6 000 and for selling below R1 million.

"Our challenge was that there are a lot of online companies out there selling and renting out property. We had to identify the thing that makes us different, which was our target market and the demographics of our business," says CEO Darren Blair.

The property portal has a very specific target market: LSM 5 - 8, aged 18 - 40, emerging middle class, students, income over R6 000 per month or a combined household income of over R12 000. Due to this niche market, mobile has been a priority.

"We're mobi orientated as our business can be accessed on basic devices with WAP and the various smartphones," says Blair.

The service can be accessed through the Web, a mobi site, BlackBerry and Android apps, and USSD, with the code *120*403#. Users connecting via USSD can choose to be SMSed when new properties fitting their search criteria are posted.

It is currently free to list property on Daily Homes (a scalable pricing model will follow once the site gains critical mass). The portal provides Web analytics to track interest shown in properties. It can be used by both real estate agents and private home owners. Agents and owners can manage an entire portfolio from a single dashboard.

The site already hails over 3 500 listings in Gauteng, and there are plans to expand to the rest of the country soon.
