Bytes Technology Networks (BTN), a division of the JSE-listed Bytes Technology Group Limited (a member of the Altron group) and Enterasys Networks have donated Enterasys switches to Dani"elskuil High School as part of a continuous drive to ensure that schools remain part of the electronic age.
BTN Gauteng`s Regional Director, Patrick Hastings, said: "BTN, in partnership with Enterasys Networks, felt that it was important to support Dani"elskuil High School in assisting their drive to ensure that all previously disadvantaged individuals obtain access to information technology thereby closing the digital divide.
"Dani"elskuil High School, a parallel-medium school, reflects the diverse needs of the communities of Thlakalatlou, Kuilsville and Danielskuil.
"The school caters for learners from Grade 1 to 12 and has grown from 430 learners in 2001 to 630 learners in 2003. The school has recently obtained a donation of 60 PIII computers from our most important social partner, De Beers Finsch Mine.
"This donation will enable us to realise on of our long-term goals, namely offering an integrated IT learning programme for all learners, as well as extra-curricular access to the world of technology to members of the community. To this end, we intend to establish four computer laboratories on campus," added Dwane Harris, Principal, Dani"elskuil High School.
Enterasys Networks` Country Manager, Martin May, reiterated: "Enterasys Networks felt that this vital education and community drive in partnership with BTN, enforces the need for corporates, government and communities to create a synergistic approach in developing tomorrow`s leaders."
