Cyber threats are growing increasingly complex and sophisticated,making it essential to have a well thought-out, mature cyber security strategy firmly in place.
Last year was a challenging one for businesses across the board. Attackers turned up their execution a notch and increases in the frequency of ransomware, phishing and cyber attacks were experienced by organisations of nearly every size, and across every industry.
To unpack the cyber security issues that are facing SA businesses, ITWeb, in partnership with KnowBe4, is conducting an online cyber security survey. The main objective is to find out what is keeping executives `up at night’ when it comes to all aspects of cyber security – from prevention, to attack, detection, and response.
According to Anna Collard, MD of KnowBe4 Africa, the survey aims to understand the pain points of those responsible for cyber security in SA, as well as the issues they face and how this compares to other regions.
Another element that is covered by the survey is the tools and solutions that businesses are using to protect themselves. However, there is no silver bullet, and no business can afford to buy every new solution on the market.
With this in mind, Collard says cyber security costs can be best mangaged by determining the highest risk factors and making sure those are addressed first – and complying to local regulations on data protection, of course.
The survey delves into a number of cyber security concerns, including the types of attacks SA businesses are experiencing, governance and compliance initiatives, as well as what works, and, more importantly, what doesn’t.
For Collard, an effective cyber security strategy is key.

By completing this quick questionnaire, respondents contribute towards a report about the current state of cyber security preparedness in SA, which will be published on ITWeb. They also stand a chance to win a set of Jabra Elite earphones.
