Non-profit organisationAfrika Tikkun seeks unemployed young people to join its cloud developer training and placement programme.
The skills development and job creation organisation has opened applications for youth aged 18 to 34, for an opportunity to complete an internationally-recognised qualification in cloud/software development.
Established in 1994, Afrika Tikkun is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the reduction of youth unemployment in SA by tackling the socio-economic drivers that make it difficult for young people to access the economy as productive citizens.
The course entails a two-track programme. The syllabus for track one consists of security fundamentals, software development fundamentals, introduction to programming in Python, Windows Azure fundamentals and developing solutions for Microsoft Azure, including four international certifications: 98-361, 98-381, AZ900 and AZ204.
The second track provides an introduction to programming, programming in C#, Python introduction, Microsoft Power platform fundamentals and app developer, Microsoft Power platform fundamentals and app developer exam, Microsoft Azure developer plus exam, and DevOps implementation and approach plus exam.
Afrika Tikkun says it has trained 3 817 local youth in employability/work readiness skills over the past three years, with over 13 300 receiving training in specialised or in-demand tech skills. Almost 1 000 have been placed in learnerships within the same timeframe.
Last year, Afrika Tikkun, in partnership with non-profit private college Maharishi Invincibility Institute, acquired the T-Systems ICT Academy, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, headquartered in Germany.
Following the sale of the ICT Academy, it was renamed as the Digital Youth ICT Academy, and the partners’ joint vision is to create the largest such facility in South Africa.
The Digital Youth ICT Academy recognises the need and massive opportunity to develop ICT and digital skills to empower and equip the youth of South Africa to become economically active.
Entry requirements for the Afrika Tikkun cloud/software developer course:
Candidates must have a diploma or degree in IT, maths, statistics, computer science or matric, with a pure maths score of at least 50%, must be a South African citizen, and reside in Johannesburg and/or surrounding areas.
