Spescom KMS in London has announced a further success for its Rail Sector Division, with the sale of the eB configuration management suite to Transmitton Ltd.
Spescom KMS is the UK operation of Spescom Limited's US based subsidiary, Altris Software Inc, which specialises in the provision of asset information management software to markets including transportation, utilities and telcos.
The eB document and configuration management capabilities will be incorporated into the SCADA control systems associated with the consolidation of East Coast Main Line (ECML) electrification in York and will provide comprehensive management of the large volumes of information associated with the project.
The Configuration Management facilities are particularly important to projects of this size and complexity because they offer a host of facilities: To identify and maintain the structure of assets; the data associated with these assets and the format of the data.
Identify the effects of change at any point in the structure and establish a methodology to implement change in an orderly fashion, including links back to sources which pinpoint the origins of error as well as identifying the need to change.
Enable decision makers to see an accurate snapshot of the situation at any given point in time - good decisions are based on good data.
Guarantee data integrity through a rigorous audit process.
The eB configuration management suite allows assets to be modelled in complex hierarchies and structures, with multi dimensional relationships to other assets and physical items, as well as to people, documents, functions, processes, services and systems. A vital function is its ability to perform a "Change Effects Analysis" which means that the effects of a change can be modelled before it is implemented, as well as being able to ensure that the full impact of the change is understood.
The eB suite also includes comprehensive document management capabilities that include powerful version control facilities, integrated workflow, CAD drawing management and a high degree of enterprise scalability.
Ben Martin, Spescom Account Manager for the rail sector notes: "Spescom and Transmitton plan to work closely on future projects to enable other customers, especially those involved in any way with the rail industry, to take advantage of the benefits that Configuration Management can offer."
"The sale follows hard on the heels of Spescom KMS's deal with British Railtrack late last year and is in line with Spescom's objectives to address the needs of this sector," adds Johann Leitner, marketing director of Spescom Limited.
