FNB customers in SA can now shop via the banking app.

First National Bank (FNB) and RMB Private Bank customers can now shop for tech gadgets and gaming appliances via the banking app.

In a statement, FNB says customers will be able to make their purchases through the eBucks Shop tab, which was previously only accessible on the eBucks Web site. Purchases can be paid for via FNB Pay.

The in-app shopping functionality also gives customers the ability to track their purchases and view their order history.

To access and start shopping on the app, customers must have an existing eBucks account and the latest version of the FNB or RMB app.

"Being at the forefront of innovation is always a focus for FNB, but it is also to help our customers by constantly finding solutions that improve the simplicity, convenience and safety of our banking ecosystem," says Raj Makanjee, CEO of FNB Retail.

"Expanding the use of our banking platform to include the new shopping functionality is one of the different ways we are fulfilling our commitment by providing value and convenience as a money manager."

According to FNB, its banking app has attracted 2.8 million active users in SA, with more than 700 000 visits per month to the eBucks Rewards tab.

"We are very excited about offering this service to customers because it adds to the helpful capabilities available on the FNB app," says Johan Moolman, eBucks Rewards CEO.

"Under the eBucks Rewards tab, customers are able to see how they can earn more eBucks to achieve their objectives, view their complimentary slow lounge visits, as well as register on The Entertainer app for free. Since the start of our partnership with The Entertainer, over 150 000 customers have registered for the value-added service, with more than 80 000 deals redeemed to date."

For an annual subscription of R495 per city, The Entertainer is an app that gives users access to two-for-one specials at restaurants, spas and hotels.
