A hard sell for Motorola

Given the mixed track records of its set-top-box and network equipment businesses, Motorola may be hard-pressed to find buyers for the units, says BusinessWeek.

During Motorola's last attempt to sell off a big business, the company was forced to take a detour.

The company hopes a new effort - this time, to find a buyer for its TV-set-top-box and network equipment businesses - meets with better results.

T-Mobile lays out 3G plans

T-Mobile has laid out aggressive plans to roll-out and improve its 3G network to better compete against rivals AT&T, Sprint Nextel, and Verizon Wireless, according to InformationWeek

The US's fourth-largest carrier has lagged behind its rivals with 3G services, as it just began rolling out its high-speed mobile broadband network last year.

The company appears to be making up for lost time though, as it said it will have a 3G network that covers 200 million people by the end of the year.

AT&T, Verizon ad battle deepens

AT&T upped the ante in its legal spat with Verizon, accusing it in an amended complaint of twisting facts in a trio of holiday ads to make AT&T's wireless network coverage look a lot worse than it is, states USA Today.

AT&T asked the federal court in Atlanta to force Verizon to pull the ads immediately.

Verizon spokesman Jim Gerace says it is holding firm: "What we are saying doesn't change."
