HP has bought Colubris Networks, a provider of wireless network hardware for enterprise and Internet service providers. HP plans to integrate its product line into the ProCurve Networking portfolio.

HP says the move will expand ProCurve's reach into vertical markets such as hospitality, transportation, healthcare, manufacturing, service provisioning and education.

Colubris' South African channel partner, Duxbury Networking, has welcomed the move, with CE Graham Duxbury saying it is "a fantastic opportunity for us".

Duxbury says his company is also an HP partner, which will ease local product-line integration.

"Colubris is a leader in their space," he says. "With HP behind them, we'll be better placed to tackle some of the big players in this industry."

HP ProCurve senior VP and GM Marius Haas says the acquisition is subject to certain conditions and is expected to close "by the end of HP's fiscal year 2008". Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
