Boost for point-of-sale security

Visimetrics has teamed up with NISYST to produce the PoSDVR combined electronic point-of-sale and digital video recording system, reports the IT Reseller.

The system enables users to combine the capture, storage and access of digitally recorded CCTV images with data in the same physical unit.

The application provides staff with instant access to recorded CCTV images driven by the search of specific transactions.

Claire's installs global retail solution

Claire's will install retail store management solutions from Epicor|CRS Retail Solutions for its 3 000 stores worldwide, the Retail Bulletin reports.

The first store to go live with the system is in the UK, with global roll-out in the coming months. The solution, developed on the Microsoft .NET framework, supports a variety of in-store functions, including point-of-sale, promotional events, returns management, inventory look-up, and time and attendance.

"We were impressed with the flexibility of the solution," says Keith Pickens, CIO of Claire's. "We were able to implement business processes unique to Claire's, so that the system reflects our own corporate culture."

Direct adds search capabilities for customers

Retail house, John Lewis Direct, has implemented search technology on its Web site to improve service and usability as its online catalogue expands, reports the Retail Bulletin.

While search engines like Google have made it easy to find just about anything on the Internet, a number of retail Web sites still depend on hierarchical catalogue structures and a list of product groups rather than a search box using natural language.

John Lewis Direct has implemented FAST's enterprise search platform, which the retailer says has improved scalability and enabled add-on service offers and information links for customers researching products.
