Creative Cloud revamp means creative freedom

Johannesburg, 19 Jun 2014

On 18 June Adobe announced a major update to Creative Cloud, making the latest iteration of its software more attractive to the mobile user on the go.

The announcement follows the recent call from Adobe for users to move from Creative Suite to a now more feature-rich Creative Cloud. According to local Adobe distributor Westcon, with the new upgrades the vendor has announced new mobile apps, exciting creative hardware including Adobe Ink and Adobe Slide and a new Creative SDK. Most exciting is the release of brand new versions of 14 CC desktop apps like Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC that are now tightly integrated with services via the cloud.

"Creatives are always trying to find ways to raise the bar on creativity by pushing the envelope through the leveraging of the latest technologies. And now, with the vast popularity of mobile devices there is an increasing need and expectation to be able to work from anywhere, at any time and on any device," states Bishen Gosai, Adobe Channel Manager at Westcon Software Solutions. "Finally everything has become super connected with social media changing the way that people interact and collaborate with each other on a global scale."

In addition Adobe Creative Cloud for teams offers continual innovation, which is a must in the creative industry. The 2014 release of Creative Cloud takes the promise of innovation to the next level with new versions of 14 desktop apps, a new set of mobile apps and innovative services that keep users' creative tools, assets and community connected.

According to Gosai, there have been a number of improvements to Creative Cloud since CS6, including major performance enhancements and countless refinements to the tools that make everyday tasks easier and faster. "Perhaps the best part is that these upgrades are automatically included in ongoing memberships at no additional charge," he adds.

"By constantly innovating, Creative Cloud enables users to capitalise on the latest technologies like 3D printing, 4K and Ultra HD video, EPUB fixed layout and the newest web standards. In addition to this Creative Cloud dramatically simplifies software purchasing and administration by continually making it easier to centrally deploy software and manage seats across an organisation."

One of the latest features added to Creative Cloud for teams has been a newly redesigned Admin Console. The user interface for the Admin Console has been completely refreshed to make it more intuitive to manage larger teams and monitor usage. Users can now filter back and forth to view both active and pending users to keep track of how many seats are being used. It is also easier to search and sort licenses so users can determine which seats are active, which users have accepted their invitations, and when seats need to be renewed. And users can manage multiple teams from a single Adobe ID.

With Adobe Photoshop CC users can change the viewpoint of a photo after it was shot with Perspective Warp. Users can now change the visibility, position or appearance of one layer in a Layer Comp and simply sync to see changes reflected in all other layer comps.

Adobe Illustrator CC enables users to make basic forms into editable shapes with the new Live Rectangle feature. It is also possible to create freehand paths with beautiful curves using the rebuilt Pencil tool and continuously edit the corners of shapes and paths with precise control with Live Corners. The 2014 release of Illustrator CC makes creating and editing vector graphics easier than ever.

"Consumers can take advantage of dozens of improvements in other Creative Cloud apps such as Adobe Audition, SpeedGrade, Prelude, Edge Animate and InCopy. Test-drive a host of new mobile apps that let users sketch, draw and edit photos on the go. Users will also be permanently connected to their creative identities with the easy access to files, fonts, colours, community and collaborators from their favourite Adobe desktop apps, mobile apps and services. What more can a creative on the go ask for?" ends Gosai.
