US federal agencies get cloud platform

The US' Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has unveiled a cloud computing platform designed primarily for federal agencies, which provides infrastructure as a service (IaaS) offerings, GCN reports.

Built using National Institute of Standards and Technology guidelines, the CSC CloudCompute for Government will offer other cloud services in the future.

The multi-tenant community cloud can respond rapidly to changing requirements at a fraction of the cost of a private cloud or a traditional data centre, CSC officials say.

According to Nextgov, CSC says CloudCompute for Government will employ a "multi-tenanancy architecture" combining Vblock, an integrated cloud fabric provided by the Virtual Computing Environment, with CSC's managed services and technical expertise.

CSC North American Public Sector president James Sheaffer notes that CSC's CloudCompute for Government is ideal for a variety of government applications and services and allows agencies to speed time to production, optimise constrained resources and reduce costs, CBR notes.

"This cloud offering addresses the federal agencies' need to comply with security mandates and positions CSC for success in an emerging high-growth market segment," said Sheaffer.
