CSC extends contract

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has extended its IT outsourcing agreement with Nortel Networks by two more years. The contract now is valid till November 2011, says TMCnet.

As listed in the agreement, CSC will continue to offer applications support and IT call centre services to Nortel's global user community.

Earlier in March 2001, the company had signed an amendment with Nortel to their original estimated $3 billion, seven-year IT outsourcing agreement signed during August 2000.

PLDT delays listing

Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) has postponed a planned listing of its outsourcing unit SPi Global Solutions, says Reuters.

Ray Espinosa, the president of ePLDT, the group's technology arm, told reporters it was highly unlikely the listing would take place this year as scheduled.

He cited poor market conditions and the need to improve operations at the medical transcription business for the decision.

Westpac denies offshoring

Westpac denied media reports that it is planning to move 3 000 back-office jobs to India, although it does want to increase "offshoring", says MSN news.

A report in Fairfax newspapers, the publishers of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, among others, said Westpac is expected to send up to 3 000 back-room staff to overseas locations such as India over the next three years in an accelerated plan to cut costs.

Westpac chief executive Gail Kelly told analysts: "I haven't seen any piece of paper with that kind of number. Will there be an increase in offshoring? Absolutely." The news of jobs going to India came as the bank announced an increase in its half-year profits by 10%.
