Business continuity event to address critical SA-specific issues

Delegates at ITWeb's upcoming business continuity conference will have access to a host of presentations covering a range of issues specific to South African companies.

Topics to be addressed include recognising the threats, managing the risks, ensuring resilience, achieving compliance and getting a return on business continuity spend.

The event has been endorsed by the Institute of Business Continuity Management (IBCM) and will be chaired by the organisation's development committee chairman, Lucky Krilic. IBCM members will qualify for a 20% discount on delegate fees for the event.

The keynote speaker at the ITWeb Business Continuity 2013 event is Riaan Hamman, the spokesman for the South African chapter of the international Disaster Recovery Preparedness Council.

Hamman will give an overview of local and international disaster recovery preparedness levels, and explore the specific challenges facing South African companies and what can be done to address critical pain points. "Around 72% of companies worldwide are at risk because they fail to prepare adequately for disaster recovery," says Hamman, adding that he believes the situation in SA is probably worse than the global average.

Also presenting is James Grcic, the founder of CSSI and a specialist in data recovery. Grcic, a past winner of the Minister's Award for Technological Excellence, and thrice nominated as an IT Personality of the Year finalist, has seen his company feature inSouth Africa's Top 300 Companies four times in the past five years.

Joining the other speakers at the event is Werner Lindemann, technology solutions division managing director at Datacentrix, who will discuss BYOD and mobility as enablers of business resilience. Social media and its relevance to business continuity will be covered by David Bollaert, a senior BCM consultant at Continuity SA.

Case studies from various industry sectors will be shared with audience members during the one-day event, aimed at giving attendees a packed agenda in a short space of time.
