iPad gets Tableau BI app

Tableau unveiled a new iPad app and a tablet-optimised version of its hosted business intelligence (BI) and data visualisation solution, writes Read Write Cloud.

“All Tableau views, from both Tableau Server and Tableau Public, are now optimised for touch and gesture experiences when accessed on the iPad,” according to the company's statement. Version 6.1 of Tableau also brings performance improvements to its in-memory analytics engine, additional maps and French and German localisation.

The company expects the tool to allow people to analyse, publish and share data on the go - from the newsroom to the classroom, reports CBR.

Tableau Software also said for journalists and Web publishers who use the tool, the move to iPad represents a new marketplace to share ideas and start conversations with an emerging audience of millions of tablet users.

Tableau Public allows users to create interactive visualisations from public data and publish them anywhere online, including blogs, Web sites, social media properties, etc.

According to Information Management, Francois Ajenstat, Tableau director of product management, says a wave of user and market requests prompted the addition of features for iPad and mobile that connects with the vendor's data crunching and visualisation capabilities.

“The whole mobile BI world has just exploded in the last 18 months and executives want to consume their analytics, their BI, on a mobile platform,” he adds.
