Southwood not hosting conference

Johannesburg, 18 Sep 2008

Balancing Act CEO Russell Southwood has clarified that neither he nor his company are hosting the Africa Media & Broadcasting Congress 2008.

ITWeb reported that the event was being hosted in October, based on a release sent out by Southwood.

Southwood has, however, subsequently stated that Balancing Act is merely a media partner for the conference and should not be quoted on any of the marketing material related to the event.

The conference will focus on the latest developments in the broadcasting industry, such as mobile television, interactive viewing and HDTV.

It will take place between 27 and 31 October, at the Sandton Convention Centre, in Johannesburg.

According to host events company Terrapinn: "Developments in Africa's media and broadcasting sector have not just evened the playing field, but they have made playing the game a lot more interesting. Africa is now moving into the mainstream."

Thirteen different countries are expected to be represented at the conference, which will feature two master-classes on understanding audience research in order to get the most out of broadcasting strategies.

Key speakers will include Khethiwe Ngcobo, head of drama at the SABC; Bernard Forson Jr, director-general at the National Communications Authority of Ghana; Mathew Buckland, GM of social media at 24.com; and Muhammad Ali Khan, senior manager for strategy and business development at Mobilink, in Pakistan.
