Progress Software's Actional product family has been positioned by Gartner in the leader quadrant of the October 2011 Gartner "Magic Quadrant for SOA Governance Technologies".
Progress Software is distributed in South Africa by AIGS.
According to this Gartner Magic Quadrant report, published on 17 October 2011 and authored by Paolo Malinverno and Darryl C Plummer: "SOA governance is about tracking and monitoring the artefacts of an SOA, enforcing and ensuring compliance with the policies associated with the artefacts and measuring the outcomes related to their use.”
A critical component of both the Progress Responsive Process Management suite and the Progress Responsive Business Integration suite, the Progress Actional product family provides best-in-class, policy-based, service management and governance that complements in-place processes and standards-based technologies.
The Actional product family includes SOA management solutions that provide the end-to-end visibility, policy-based governance and performance monitoring, which is needed to manage an SOA in a distributed, multi-platform environment.
The Gartner Magic Quadrant report also states: “The vast majority of clients approaching the SOA governance market today are not looking for just a repository for designing services or a few security policies to make sure some services are consumed only by the right entities. They are also looking for a comprehensive technology partner to cover SOA artefacts from planning to retirement, and to assign a changing set of policies throughout their life cycle. Hence, the focus of this Magic Quadrant is on comprehensive solutions and vendor viability becomes paramount, as SOA projects last several years.”
