McAfee, a Network Associates business, today delivered the McAfee Wireless family of products, the industry`s first Internet virus security solution that protects e-business from Internet viruses and malicious code transferred via mobile devices.
McAfee VirusScan Wireless, the first in the new family of McAfee Wireless products, provides award-winning anti-virus protection for the leading handheld platforms including Palm OS, PocketPC, Windows CE and Symbian EPOC devices. This is the latest in a series of McAfee announcements about delivering virus security technology and services to protect the Internet from threats at every point of entry, such as the desktop, the server, the Internet gateway, and now mobile and wireless handheld devices.
The McAfee VirusScan Wireless product enables e-businesses to protect against the emerging security threat caused by the proliferation of mobile devices within the corporate environment. "The McAfee VirusScan Wireless product offers users real-time Internet virus security and is easily installed by downloading a small file from the McAfee web site. Once installed, all files transferred to or from the PC during any synchronisation with the wireless device will be scanned for viruses. The McAfee VirusScan Wireless product also updates itself automatically over the Internet," explains Lloyd Wood, MD at Network Associates SA.
"As more and more people use mobile devices to conduct critical e-business transactions and access information wirelessly over the Internet, the potential exists for new security threats which take advantage of this new avenue of entry into the enterprise network," continues Wood.
