New head for Mecer

Johannesburg, 11 May 2007

Following the sudden departure of Mecer MD, Dean Barkhuizen, JSE-listed Mustek has announced executive director Hein Engelbrecht will add that role to his responsibilities.

A wholly-owned Mustek subsidiary, Mecer locally assembles and distributes PCs, notebooks and related products.

After 19 years in the IT industry, Barkhuizen is understood to have tendered his resignation on 7 May. His departure was effective immediately. But Engelbrecht puts this sudden departure down to Barkhuizen's desire to pursue personal interests.

Engelbrecht has been with Mustek since 1997, first as group financial manager and more recently as financial director.

"I have been more financially inclined in the past and there is no doubt that I am now on a steep learning curve. I am very excited about the position though. Mecer is optimistic and positive about the future and it will be my job to jell it all together and ensure that we deliver," he says.
