KYOCERA releases new ECOSYS printers

The focus is on increased performance and security.

Johannesburg, 12 May 2009

KYOCERA has further developed its family of black-and-white office printers. Among the most important new innovations of the ECOSYS printers FS-2020D, FS-3920DN and FS-4020DN, a higher printing speed and productivity, alongside extensive data security are to be seen, as well as even easier usability.

They are, therefore, of optimum usage in the workplace, for a team or even for a department. With the exceptionally low cost per page, the KYOCERA ECOSYS printers also come with an ideal economic incentive.

The new ECOSYS printers are an update of the proven successful models FS-2000D, FS-3900DN and FS-4000DN. Along with their introduction at CeBIT 2006, Kyocera set new standards concerning reliability and economic incentive among black-and-white printers.

“These are characteristics that distinguish the new developments coming on to the market,” says Micheal Powell, product marketing manager at Kyocera Mita South Africa, when describing the new introductions for the start of 2009. “The new models are not only to be distinguished due to their features, but also in their design compared with their predecessors. Of particular importance when further developing these products, were the issues of advanced security functions and user friendliness. As a result, the midnight blue tray allows a greater anticipation of the feed for printed documents. For better information visibility, the positioning of the LED strip has been altered.”

Network capabilities, consistent platform strategy permit new security, management solutions

Included in the central performance characteristics of the new printer generation are the consistent platform strategy and standard double-sided printing facility, as well as networking capability. The latter comes as standard with the FS-3920DN and FS-4020DN models, and is available as an optional extra for the FS-2020D. They do not only offer improved productivity, but also additional security features and various document management functions.

Encryption and authentication are the most important properties for the protection of sensitive documents against third-party access. These respective tools and features of the new ECOSYS printer range from the monitoring and supervision of varying network elements (SNMPv3), to encryption protocol (SSL), to security measures in IP networks (IPsec) and standards for the authentication of computer networks (IEEE802.1x).

In order to achieve efficient job management processes, the systems are fitted with a new controller, on the basis of the proven Kyocera platform strategy. The integrated command centre now supports easy print job deletion and check of the print job status. Thanks to the USB host interface, located at the front of the printer, it is possible to print PDF files directly from a connected USB flash memory device.

Higher speed with improved print quality

A sustainable improvement of productivity arises from the implementation of a larger memory and quicker processors.

Moreover, all three systems are fitted with a double-sided printing facility as standard. As a result of these updates, the FS-2020D achieves a maximum of 35 pages per minute. The FS-3920DN is even quicker, processing 40 pages per minute, and the FS-4020DN even more so, with a 45 page per minute turnover. Speed, however, is not the only advantage - the optimised toner guarantees an even better quality when printing images and greyscale.

The new ECOSYS printers are available from May 2009.
