Bytes Document Solutions (BDS), the authorised Xerox distributor in 26 sub-Saharan Africa countries and a division of Bytes Technology Group, has announced the appointment of Mario Pereira as the new Divisional Managing Director of personalised communications solutions company, LaserCom. BDS is the largest Xerox distributor in the world and the biggest contributor to Bytes, with revenue in excess of R1.8 billion.

Pereira's 23-year-long career in the software and printing industry started as a junior programmer at Commercial and Industrial Computer Systems (CICS) in 1975. Over the next 14 years he progressed to software manager at the company. In 1989 he joined Software Research as software manager, and he then moved to Digitron as branch manager. He was then appointed as the general manager for The Laser Facilities Group before Xerox purchased the company 14 years ago.

In his role as LaserCom Managing Director, Pereira will be responsible for driving the company's new strategy as it seeks to introduce new services to its existing portfolio. "The global printing trend is showing a decline, which means that we have to incorporate new services into our business," says Pereira. "Within LaserCom's business as a personalised communications solutions provider, we have opportunities in the digital space (e-mail and SMS) and social media through which we can evolve and provide our clients with a wider range of value add services.

"The major differentiator at LaserCom is that we truly invest back into the business and as a result have some of the best, state-of-the-art equipment in the industry. This has also allowed us to drive cost control as a critical factor across all our services."

Bytes Document Solutions CEO Johan Basson says he is delighted with Pereira's appointment: "I have no doubts that the LaserCom business is in capable hands. Mario has proven over his years of service that he is an exceptional leader who has a passion for the business, its employees and its customers. With a strong and talented team to tackle any challenges, I believe that we have found a competent, energetic and driven leader who will ensure that LaserCom continues to deliver outstanding performance and results."

Pereira has been married for 37 years and both of his children live in the UK, the one in the sound engineering field and the other photography.
