Business continuity the new order of business

Johannesburg, 15 Sep 2000

Business Continuity is the new order of business in the 21st Century as an in-depth understanding of the potential disastrous effects that downtime could have on a company is vital. The half-day Business Continuity seminar being held at COMDEX South Africa 2000 on Friday, 6 October, at Gallagher Estate will prepare you and your business for both technical and operational downtime.

"Successful companies these days are intolerant to business interruption because they understand that whatever the source, downtime destroys reputation, relinquishes customers to competition and unsettles shareholders," says Peter Aspinall, managing director, of SBS Conferences, organiser of the seminars and workshops at COMDEX South Africa 2000.

"The Business Continuity seminar will assist IT, financial, HR and line managers looking to develop business and IT continuity plans and will address the relationship between traditional disaster recovery planning and the latest business principles of continuity and contingency planning," he says.

IT and business are two sides of the same coin. By protecting one, you are inherently securing the other, with this in mind, the seminar will cover topics including IT Disaster Recovery - A Business Discipline, Embracing the Internet Age, Continuity vs Recovery and Practical Tips for Continuity Planning and the Recovery of Critical Systems.

Sponsored by Adam Information Technology SA, the seminar will feature both local and international speakers with a wealth of experience in the area of business continuity and disaster recovery planning from both the business and IT sides.

"This executive briefing will help delegates create a watertight continuity strategy for their computer systems and their business," explains Aspinall. "The delegate will learn how to achieve continuous buy-in from top management and will receive practical advice to ensure their company`s recovery plans are appropriate for their market and their business."

The COMDEX South Africa 2000 Seminars and Workshops run from 3-6 October 2000 alongside the COMDEX South Africa 2000 exhibition and include topics such as IT Skills Developments, Open Source Software, e-commerce security and IT Project Management.
