Online digital accounting firm Osidon, in partnership with Discovery, has launched a tax advisory solution that leverages bespoke artificial intelligence software, advanced data analytics and cloud technology.

"For the customer, this means an integrated service with a holistic view of all products that impact individual tax,” says Hennie Ferreira, CEO of Osidon.

Consultants can use the solution to offer quality tax and financial advisory services.

The primary role the solution will fulfil is monitoring the quality of service and advice given, Ferreira explains. “For example, the AI will record and analyse conversations where the service is being rendered.”

In addition, it can be utilised to automate mundane tasks to make the service more efficient and affordable, he says, allowing accountants to focus on more high-touch work.

Tax, accounting skills opportunities

Osidon is targeting a broad market and Ferreira says no special prerequisites are needed to benefit from the service.

“This is one of the biggest misconceptions in South Africa – people believe that tax benefits and savings only apply to high earners or business owners. On the contrary, the benefits secured with Osidon's services are available to anyone paying tax. If someone pays taxes, we commit to reducing their tax contributions; if not, we offer a 100% refund on the fee.”

Osidon and Discovery also aim to develop skills within the tax and accounting services industry. The plan is to fill 300 new positions in 2023 and a total of 1500 positions over the next three years, with tax practitioners trained by both Osidon and Discovery.

”For this venture, we are establishing a new breed of financial professionals who will be the face of this next-generation industry,” says Ferreira.

“All vacancies are local job opportunities and not outsourced – mainly in the Gauteng area,” he explains. “Applications are open to any nationality if they legally reside in South Africa and adhere to the job requirements. The vacancies are all hybrid working opportunities, so the candidate must have a reliable internet connection at home. We are looking for commercial graduates who studied taxation up to at least level 2."
