Will edge eat the cloud?

Johannesburg, 13 Sep 2018

For industrial automation, it's becoming apparent that the edge is going to be equally as important as the cloud for capitalising on the data generated on the plant floor. In fact, according to Gartner, by 2022, more than 50% of industrial IOT analytics will be performed at the edge, up from less than 10% today.

With this influx of data and connected devices, combined with the lack of IT resources at the edge, edge computing poses many challenges for industrial environments. It's clear that a new, smarter edge infrastructure is needed. Stratus is helping to ease these challenges by bridging the gap between operation technology (OT) and information technology (IT) with its ztC Edge platform.

Gartner research outlines the crucial need for new edge infrastructure; and Stratus is playing a pivotal role delivering zero-touch computer platforms at the edge, specifically designed for IOT and requiring little or no IT support.

The Gartner research tackles some of the most important issues facing edge operations today:

* Why the edge will eat the cloud;
* Latest IIOT trends and drivers;
* Managing IIOT analytics across hybrid edge and cloud deployment; and
* Innovative approaches to simplify and increase system reliability.
